Product Care
Care Guide
Bar a few exceptions, we recommend machine washing at 30°C, using non-biological detergent, with similar colours and the garment turned inside out. Washing in hot water can contribute to shrinkage. It’s also best not to use fabric softener as this can affect the performance of the merino.
Due to the natural properties of merino, it’s less necessary to wash your Isobaa after every wear, so feel free to wear it for a few days before putting it through a wash – much kinder on the environment, and also saves you money on detergent.
-
Check Garment Labels
Before washing, always check the labels inside your garment for specific instructions. This helps you avoid damaging the fabric due to improper care.
-
Separate by Colour
Wash similar colours together to prevent colour bleeding. This maintains the vibrant look of your garments.
-
Avoid Frequent Washing
Due to the natural properties of Merino, it doesn’t need to be washed after every wear. This not only saves water but also extends the garment’s lifespan.
-
Use Non-Biological Detergent
Choose a detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Avoid using biological detergents as they may weaken the wool fibers.
-
Set Machine to 30°C
A cooler temperature helps preserve the wool fibers and reduces shrinkage risk.
Tip: Wash your garment inside out to protect the outer surface. -
Avoid Fabric Softeners
Fabric softeners can coat the wool fibers, reducing breathability and moisture-wicking properties. Instead, use a wool-specific detergent if available.
-
Use a Gentle Spin Cycle
Use the gentlest spin cycle to prevent stretching and damage.
-
Lay Flat to Dry
Lay your garment flat on a clean, dry towel to air dry. This helps prevent stretching and maintains the garment’s shape.
Tip: If drying flat isn't possible, drape the garment over a clothes horse to reduce stress on the fibers. -
Avoid Direct Heat or Sunlight
Keep the garment away from direct heat sources like radiators and out of direct sunlight, as they can cause fading and damage the fibers.
-
Do Not Tumble Dry
Wool garments are not suitable for tumble drying. The heat and movement can shrink or damage the wool fibers.
-
Turn Garment Inside Out
Place the garment inside out before ironing to protect any printed areas from heat.
-
Use a Low Heat Setting
Set the iron to the wool or low heat setting to avoid scorching the fabric.
-
Use Gentle Steam
Hold the iron slightly above the garment and use gentle steam to remove wrinkles without making direct contact.
Reducing Pilling
To help reduce pilling, occasionally wash your Isobaa with garments made from coarser fabric, like denim (ensure all zips are closed). This helps remove loose fibres and maintain the appearance of your Isobaa garments over time.
