Blister Prevention Tips

There’s nothing worse than setting off on a long walk, hike, or just a busy day on your feet, only to be sidelined by painful blisters. However, with the right approach (and the right socks!), you can keep blisters at bay and stay comfortable no matter where your feet take you.

Top tips to prevent blisters

  • 1. Choose the right socks

The foundation of blister prevention starts with your socks. Opt for merino wool socks, like our Merino Blend Everyday Socks or Merino Blend Hiking Socks. Merino wool is naturally moisture-wicking, breathable, and temperature-regulating — helping to keep your feet dry and blister-free.

  • 2. Keep your feet dry

Damp skin is more prone to friction, which leads to blisters. Merino wool’s quick-drying and moisture-wicking properties help manage sweat, keeping your feet fresh and dry throughout the day.

  • 3. Wear the right fit

Ill-fitting shoes and socks can cause excessive rubbing, increasing the risk of blisters. Look for socks with a secure fit and supportive design — like our ribbed cuff and half terry sole features — to minimise movement and friction.

  • 4. Layer up for extra protection

For longer hikes, consider wearing a thin liner sock under your merino socks to reduce friction even further. This extra layer can help wick away moisture and add an extra barrier against hotspots.

  • 5. Take care of your feet

Before heading out, apply anti-chafing balm or powder to areas prone to friction. If you feel a hotspot developing, stop and address it immediately — adjust your socks, change into a dry pair, or apply a blister patch to prevent it from worsening.
